Ok, Lets get it out in the open. who has used APCGS and what were the results. If you could post pictures of the graded coin, when it was graded, what grade you were expecting and if you were happy with the service. What I will ask is for people who have not used the service to not post their dislike for the company and how they graded coins at the start as this has been covered more than once in other threads, I will however encourage you to post what you think the grade on a coin should be. The point of this is to gauge the viability of using their service if the value of the coin does not justify the cost of sending to an international TPG. As a note I am note affiliated with APCGS and have not used their service.

If you're in Sydney, you'd be welcome to drop in and take a look at the 9 I've just had graded by APCGS!
I would contribute images, but for the fact that I don't have a camera only a scanner and scans of coins in slabs seem to blur so badly that they would not be helpful.
If you go to the APCGS website, there are lists of coins that have been graded by them and you can click on the numbers and see images of the coins as well as the gradings they've assigned them. That would seem a perfect way for you to make your own independent assessment of their grading standards.

I'm in Vic Jimjam so its a bit far to drive LOL. How would you say their grades were in comparison to what you thought and what was the service like.
As every one knows it is hard to give an accurate grade by photos so I'm looking to see if they are within a reasonable margin of what people thought they would get.

I'm on the Facebook group but given the fact they give members of the group a discount, I don't think it make for an independent opinion of the service.

I would probably disagree as you are asking for an opinion on the grading standards of them. What I have seen so far is that they grade harsher than the others but suppose to be graded to Australian standards.

I have NEVER used this grading company simply because of their disastrous start up with the wrong denigrations of grades eg MS45 and their lack of expertise in finding "details" coins and grading them. However, as of late they seem to be getting it together But it is far too little and far too late. This "Turkey" will NEVER fly IMHO. I DO agree that a home based company manned by Competent graders would be a huge asset to Aussie Collectors and I hope that this will eventually be the case. The very Name APCGS is a Scammy "take off" and if they were serious they would have called themselves ACGS or Australian Coin Grading Services or something of that ilk.

Wasn't ACGS already been used by an Australian grading company back in the 90's? Regarding them changing there name, it still wouldn't make you change you mind trout about this company I don't think the turkey has flown with this company as we are seeing a lot more listings on ebay of coins graded by them. IMHO that it does look like they have got it together, maybe from the sale of them earlier in the year has help this and looking at there website, there's more changes coming up, probably why they expect an increase is submissions this year. They have been in the market long enough now that if a new TPG started up in Australia, APCGS would survive and squash any onshore Australian based new companies. If one of the two big companies arrives in Australia, that would affect APCGS but this does not look like happening anytime soon due to the population of Australia and it would not be beneficial for them to come and compete against another existing company

@Coinsaus The reason why you are seeing more listings on ebay is because Slabbed coins are becoming more acceptable to Australian collectors and APCGS is riding on the coat tails of NGC and PCGS and "Duping" collectors on the way with their inferior offerings. Quite frankly I would surmise that APCGS will set back the development of a "Genuine" Aussie TPG for the next 20 years and that is why PCGS hasn't done a bloody thing about them.

Thank you coinaus and trout. I think there is a lot of information on this thread and all over the web about people views on the legality of the company and so on. So lets try to keep on topic.

I have 2 questions that have not been answered, but I'm pretty sure most would like an answer to. 1. Who is Shane Williams in the coin industry, like I mean does anyone know him ? 2. What are his credentials,as in how many years has he been in the industry studying coins & notes & how to grade them ?

Good question appleangel07 I would like to know this as well but he may not even be the one grading, someone else could be grading the coins and he is only slabbing them. Realistically their is nothing stopping me from stating a slabbing company, sending the coins to a respected grade then slabbing the coins with their grade under my name. The benefit is that if a mistake is made such as a fake coin is graded the respected graders name isn't dragged through the mud.

Ok So the ABN is registered to Emma Kelly Hall lives with Shane Williams.
They have done some hard work to distance themselves from the name.

This is still an interesting, although politically controversial topic. It has unfortunately been railroaded a fair bit. There is not one post containing photos of coins. If anyone out there had used this company, please post your results. If you have purchased coins graded by this company, please post your results. If you disagree with the grading given on a particular coin, please post your results. If you feel that their grading has improved, please post your results. Can we please see pictures of value adding performed by APCGS, and judge accordingly.
