It's a real penny, but it wasn't minted that way. Looks like someone ground it down a while ago and it went back into circulation where it regained some regular color.

There is no upset rim on the reverse. I have been told that if the rim is not upset, then it was likely ground down to make it look like an error. It is odd though that the obverse looks like it was weakly struck like a possible die trial adjustment strike (but does look a little different than most). I found the auction you bought it from on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lincoln-pen...047675.l2557Hopefully Mike Diamond looks at this post or Coop has an answer for you. The weight would be key knowing if it were ground down. It had several bidders on it, but that really does not mean much. I hope it is some kind of oddity.

It is post-strike damage, probably ground down.

You can get a cheap gram scale on ebay that will work for weighing coins. I like the fast weigh scales, I have had one that has worked for several years with no issue. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...ale&_sacat=0After looking at the obv. pictures in the ebay auction again, I agree with ErrorCoins222, that it is most likely just a damaged coin.

I agree with those who've concluded that the reverse was ground off. Lincoln's head also appears to have been altered in a similar manner. If this is what happened, then the coin should be significantly underweight.

to me it seems like a sanded Job would show zinc layers..Looks like a lot of sanding to show no zinc layers at all any where

You know what is strange to me,you can see some broad struck Coins with now Raised rims,Yesterday I Talked on the Phone with ebay support about this coin,And they Told me,If it Can't be proven its sanded down that I could ReList it,So that is what I am trying to do is get it Verified one way or another..I have been doing some research on this and some info I read some badly worn dies can Create some weird anomalies on Coins,I will keep reseaching
