I am sorry to say this, but due to a security leak that installed a number of terrorist propoganda files in our database and user uploads folders, we need to turn the image uploading ability off for the forum. Images that are hosted elsewhere can still be viewed by pasting in the url.

There are a number of options available for our members:

1) Check with your internet service provider. Many offer free storage space and you can store your images that way at no extra cost.

2) There are a number of free image hosting services available. Photobucket is used by many and I have heard some very good things about them http://www.photobucket.com.

3) If necessary, you can email images to me and I'll upload them.

I regret that this has become necessary. We will be moving to a more secure forum software and server in the next couple of weeks that hopefully will allow this feature to be enabled once again.

Susan,

It is most unfortunate that unwanted propaganda files were uploaded to your site, but that is not the only security hole that this type of feature allows. Any hacker that wanted too could probably get to your site's root directory through the holes created by this type of feature.

And, I must tell you that I have never cared much for that feature from my side of the coin (so to speak). It may be handy for those who choose not to use their own or a free hosting site for storing their images, but I will never use the feature. I simply will not allow anyone online to have access to my system. It is just as easy for a hacker to access my system through your site as it is for a hacker to access your site using that upload feature. Were I you, I would think twice before implementing it again.

As it is now I have to use two different pieces of spyware to remove the six different tracking files your site uploads to my system, none of which have a thing to do with forum login. Very unnecessary in my opinion.

JD, what tracking files are you talking about? And how can you be sure they came from this site? We have no spyware of any kind and no tracking software of any kind attached to this forum. The only thing that would download to your computer is the cookie - nothing else!

Ageka,

Secret Crush is either in your registry or has a regenerating file somewhere else, it is not coming from this forum. You can delete it until your blue in the face and it will keep instantly coming back no matter what site you go to first.

http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/...id=453073209

Whatever program your using deletes the task and the cookie but does not delete the file that creates it.

Its been around since 2002.

There are only 2 items from this site that collect info and they're both 100% harmless.

1. The site counter. Tracks hits through the site. Tracks nothing off the site. It does not "identify" anyone to me. Everyone looks the same to me. It identifies popular pages (and non-popular) so that I can make the site better for everyone.

2. Google cookie. Only tracks the Google ad clicks so that we get paid. Also helps Google track fraudulent clicks. Does not track anything else.

If anyone is getting anything else it is not from this site. Spyware is designed to regenerate itself. Some of them place as many as 50 files in different places on your computer. If you only delete 49 of them, the one left will replace the spyware and the other 49 files.

Hi Bobby
I got secret crush for the first time today somewhere
and by hand deleted the exe file
It came not from this site
I live behind a firewall set at max security and a virusscanner
I use Spybot search and destroy and Ad-aware 6.0
My ad aware reports on this site one dataminer that is more than a
normal cookie
it is labelled statcounter(1).txt
I am sure it is harmless but ad-aware still flags it as a dataminer

That is the counter in the bottom right corner. The only "data" it mines is a page hit.
