Less than a month since my first query here, so still a newcomer. Just wanted to share my "I learned something today" piece.

Recently expended the princely sum of 2$ on some pennies and other coins for sale by a sidewalk vendor. My first official coin buy - and well worth it, if only to learn more about the fascinating 1974/75 never-minted aluminium cent. A bit of searching on this forum, and it was clear I had found a penny electroplated with zinc, rather than one of the 3 out of 58 or 66 un-accounted for 1975 aluminium cents! A more than cursory look at the rim also makes this pretty obvious.

Including a picture of the un-plated bit on the rim where the underlying copper is clearly visible, as explained in the earlier posts I found. As a consolation, the devices on either side appear to be around 15-20 degrees off-centered, although I guess that's not so much in the grand scheme of things.

What does your coin weigh? Also, I believe they changed hubs in 75 and they continued on up until 82. There was speculation that the 75's trials were made from the 74 Hub I want to say around May of 74. They gave the Mint permission to change the weight as well but unsure of the specifics for the bronze coated steel. Any other things going on with your coin? I In the past the there were slight measurement differences but the weight was near spot on. Is it magnetic?

Thanks for the follow up Hflirn, and apologies for the delayed response, did not check the forum during the weekend. The coin is definitely not magnetic. I do not have a weighing scale that measures milligrams, it shows 3 grams(although not sure what rounding up logic is built into the scale).

So if I understand your point correctly, there are some less common 1975 cents that were made with a 1974 die, before a new die was applied for coins minted after May, 1975 until 1982?
