I read, just today, if you spit on each side of the coin before you wrap in aluminium foil, it helps. That's a lot of spit you will need. Fantastic hoard, it should keep you busy for a while!

wow...thanks! I think that you just doubled the number of attributed coins that I have now...! I'll post singles next time. I'm still working on using the 'macro' function of my camera for better detail as well.

One coin at a time, nice crisp images of both sides, try and crop the picture so it is mainly coin and not background. We should be able to attribute fairly quickly for you.

Ok thanks...I'll post some better pictures that show a coin at a time. Thanks Masis, I'll keep that in mind! Right now I'm just trying to build my collection up a bit. haha sorry Noob...I think that one of my goals is to try to get as many types of roman silver coins as I can! I'll post those celtic coins too - those are my favourite so far I think...

If your into ancient coins for the Roman Silver coin types here is one you most certainly cannot live without.... Rare and Chunky.... During this period the Byzantine Empire was cut off from its silver mines and silver coinage all but disappeared. Continued wars with Persia required vast sums of money and a high denomination silver piece was needed. Having no way to mine silver this coin was made exclusively from Church plate. THe coin weighed about 6.5 grams, and was named after its weight. The coin would only remain in circulation for a short time and only continued in ceremonial use, before being replaced by the smaller thinner Miliaresion. Byzantine Empire Eastern Roman Empire Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine AR Hexagram 22.0 mm x 6.28 g Constantinople mint. 610-640 AD Obv. dd NN HERAKLIUS et hERA CONST Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine seated facing on double throne Rev. Large DEUS ADIUTA ROMANIS Cross potent above three steps (God Help the Romans) ref# S 798

Nice coin ancientnoob! From its description though I"m guessing that it's pretty pricey though... I'm just taking some pictures of those celtic coins now...I'll post them as soon as they're done.

Most of the Islamic silver is Mamluk, with one or two Ayyubid coins mixed in. All common.
