My 6 year old son has asked me to get him an old coin(s.) He mentioned the 100-400AD range. Is there a decent source for an inexpensive genuine ancient coin(s?) Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks.

Vermontensium probably can sell you a real nice coin for a decent price. Another suggestion is just look on ebay. A low-grade ancient coin can be had for around 40-50 Cents each if bought in bulk and are available for $1-$2 singularly. Some of the late Roman Bronze's in VF-EF can be had for ~$10-$15.

adding on to that.. looking for an ancient ROMAN Empire coin from 1AD to 35AD, or at least one that was minted in that time period. ideas? I have a specific reason for the date range. Just something I would like to get and send to my dad.

I am not sure if you guys are aware Echizento here on CCF has a ton of fully attributed ancient coins from the Roman Empire, I am sure he could fit any date range. Some of the coins are large and some are small, all are at a decent price I would send him a PM, or maybe he will chime in.

to be a bit more specific. I am looking for coins that are in really good condition. As kind person PM'd me a note and a link to one he had, it was cool and fit the need, but I am looking for one in better condition, and am not afraid of paying up to 100.00 or so. I need to look into the "widow's mite" coin and see if I can find one in great shape. Also, my biggest fear, is that since I know nothing of ancient coins, I would be an easy mark for a ripoff. Which is mostly why I posted here rather then just going to ebay.

Vcoins has a pretty flexible search engine. Put in a price range, say $75 - $100 will bring in just a couple of nice ones,
If these don't suite and you want something with a historical angle, try putting Pontius Pilate into the search. Not widows mites, but prutahs.
