Here is a Morgan dollar which is in pretty good shape. What grade wouold you put on the flip. It had MS-64 on the 2x2.

Thanks for looking

Looks like a pretty good strike, but boy those hits on the cheek are really going to affect the grade. MS-64 is out of the question I think. Mainly due to the sheer amount of Morgans, and what I think is stricter grading in a way. The cheek must be clean to entertain 64 IMO. There is also quite a few marks on the reverse right at "we trust" which really draws your eye. COuld just be the lighting of the photo, but any "mark" that draws your eyes away from clean fields I think really hurts a coin. I would say 63 may be ok with market grading. It seems to have good eye appeal even with the marks in bad areas.

Keep in mind, I still stink at this game, and tend to undergrade to be on the safe side.

There are two main marks on the cheek - behind the mouth, and under/behind the nose. Either one of them, alone, and the coin makes MS64. Together, and the coin makes MS63. call it a *good* 63, though - the fields are relatively clean, and even with a lot more chatter I think it would still hold 63.

MS62.
The marks extending right from the nose and mouth into the center of the cheek, at the top of the cheek below the eye, further chatter on the cheek and neck, are too distracting. Plus, the fields don't look all that clean to me. There seems to be some kind of longish mark in the field in front of the eyes and some abrasions behind the head. Looks like a good strike and the reverse is much better than the obverse. But that's the way it is on most silver dollars, including Peace dollars, I've seen.
