To one, a coin with vibrant toning is a thing of beauty, to others it's plain awful. So, what kind of toning do you like? Of theese three my favourite is the 1880 no mintmark.

Natural toning most of all! To be more specific, even though I like most kinds of toning, that 1884-O Morgan dollar really caught my eye. I think it's the contrast between the amber toning and the blast white surfaces. Nice coin!

In general: -- blast white for MS coins -- light natural toning for AU and XF coins -- natural gray toning for VF and lower coins
EXCEPTION: I find the pastel colors sometimes encountered on nickel coins VERY appealing

Not a US classic coin collector, but I do have definite opinions on toning! Personally, since my coins are over 350 years old I prefer them to look as if they are rather than shiny-as-new. However quite often (particularly with detector finds) such coins are cleaned by museums before being retuned to the finders. So there may be little choice in the matter. Consequently I have coins from near-black to shiny silver. My favourites generally being a bluish grey: My only real dislikes are rainbows (which just look ridiculously artificial to me) and patchy or spotty toning. Yellowish isn't a favourite either so I tend to hope any such coins will in time tone beyond that..

Personally I think "Monster Toning" is a bit over the top, it is just TO much colour, almost holographic. But, as staded above, the views on toning is as diverse as the toning itself. Hehe

Though I do prefer blast white coins, I prefer rim-toned coins or "album"-toned coins.

I'm not sure exactly how it got this way, but I've always thought this one had a lot of character:

Toning wont go black (terminal is the technical term) in your lifetime as long as you practice proper storage and related safeguards.
To answer the OP's question, I prefer blues and greens in my toners.

Bullseye toner if it has tasteful toning.

In general the only toning I like is when it is just very subtle coloration of the coin, anything more than that just seems gimmicky, especially rainbow toning.

What kind of toning do I like? Ones that make my draw drop. I'm pretty fond of these 3
