Hi everyone, a newbie here.

I'm sorting through a collection of British coins that were left to me by my dad. Some of these do not have grades marked on their holders. Most of these are either VF or EF and they're old enough that the grading matters as far as value goes. I've googled coin grading but I'm finding a lot of different advice. Can anyone recommend a trusted grading system?

Thanks in advance.

One more quick question...some of those without grades have "S-4083" and other similar numbers on them. My searches won't identify these but I get the impression
that its something to do with strike quality?

The references are for Spink/Seaby nrs.
Canada/US grades are way below UK grades.

Coins graded by companies such as PCGS will grade on a scale 1-70 as is typical in the states however coins graded in the UK by companies such as CGS will be graded on a scale 1-100. Coin books such as Spinks + Krausse will give you some idea as to value for particular grades. If you are not an expert, I would recommend taking your coins to a dealer for an appraisal rather than trying to figure out the values by yourself. Find a dealer that is a member of a recognized organization to ensure you are being treated as fairly as possible
