I still can't understand so much money for a coin from a worn out over polished die.

I have a LMC with Lincoln's face missing because of grease and overpolishing. If it's in MS-65 condition, then is it worth $50,000? I just made that up. Same concept. Same rarity. One has a higher demand than the other. The market won't stand in the future.

Considering the market had slood for something like 60 years, it will unfortunately continue to stand. Especialy since they put a hole for it in the folders and it is constantly listed as part of a "complete" set.

That's one tough cherry pick but I'd still rather look for one then pony up the premium on an already ID'd one.

I couldn't rationalize paying the premium either.

While it is a coin made entirely of hype, the fact remains, the hype has lasted for than half a century and shows no sign of fading anytime soon. A coin of high demand, but very limited mintage. Isn't that what a valuable collectible is ?

Great variety, in spite of the naysayers.

While I agree that the three-legger is a desirable collector coin, IMHO, it's way over-priced; this, simply because many coin folders have a hole for it. There are many scarcer Buffalo varieties for which no hole exists. At any major coin show, there are numerous three-leggers resting in showcases. The supply of these is apparently sufficient to fill the holes. I'm surprised that folders lack a hole for the 1938-D/S, considering how plentiful they are.

It's not so much that we "naysayers" reject the variety, methinks. We are more inclined to reject being told what coins to include to make a "complete" set. If the abum makers suddenly decided to create a hole for the 1909 VDB double-die, how would that go over with collectors? Not well, I expect!
