Do you think this has a shot at getting a new variety assigned by Rick Snow?
There are bold die file marks by the ear. In a PCGS MS65 CAC holder.

My attribution guide does not list this, but it is a few years old.

I think it has a shot, I like how it looks like extra hair.

Die file marks are actually damage and I guess it is up to to the individual to decide whether he wants to collect them as a variety. The 1875 IHC S6 and S15 (there may be others that I don't remember)varieties have fairly heavy die file marks and have generated some collector interest. I think your coin compares favorably to these other varieties so Snow may consider it. My attribution guide, like yours, is old and I know there are quite a few newly discovered varieties missing. So, it may already be a variety.

I found no match to it and my guide goes to S20 for the 1863. There is S14 that has the file marks that go more horizontal. File marks above and below the ear.

I found one, I believe it's an S18.

Is that an 1875? My guide only goes up to S15 for that year. I must be missing quite a few new varieties.

That's interesting! I guess it depends if Rick Snow considers them dramatic enough--good luck!
