I just purchased a 2007 silver eagle from the US Mint while attending the Worlds Fair of Money here in Milwaukee WI When I open the package to see this beautiful coin I notice a die chip on the rev at the 5 o'clock position between the O and N in one. I guess it passed inspection? What is your take on this ERROOR, KEEPER or RETURN for a unblemished version Thanks IVY
because they are Bullion and not really spendable coins (unless you only want a buck for it) I would return it for an unblemished round. I don't think there is a market for cracks on rounds but I could be wrong. Gary
I would not say a crack but a die chip embedded between O&N in one. Odd that it would pass inspection for a Proof Silver Eagle Sorry for the misinformation it is a 2007 W Proof Silver Eagle
you would be shocked by what comes out of the mint. but if they paid better attention we would not have all the cool coins that we have today so I say keep it up Gary
I would keep it. I don't know what the market is for proof bullion errors or die varieties. Proof coins seldom pass inspection if they have problems. I don't know what your budget is, but you could always purchase another one from the mint for under $35.00.
Budget away provides for buying in two's for Eagles, One for my son. As our collection extends from 1989 the year he was born. I've have not encountered this type of strike in any Eagle to date hence the question
