Just a little update about the CCN July 29 article on the 1000.00 and 1250.00 coins, they are legal tender coins, apparently a half kilo gold legal tender coin, with very limited mintage but priced like the recent NCLT half kilo gold coins. When I first read the CCN article, they sounded like 20 for 20 coins, but they are going to be this new weird legal tender, but NCLT price coins, what a mess these coins will create.

I call it garbage because it is another over priced cluttered coin that will not do anything in the after market but that is my opinion. As for Perth Mint coins at least they only release about 8-10 coins a month not 15-20 like RCM which most are not that appealing by both mints. The new garbage as you call them are popular maybe because there are only 1500 mintage let's see RCM put out a coin at that mintage (it will not be done ever)then maybe they will have a popular coin again. Even the Perth Mint has not done well recently with the coins they have put out but they keep most of there mintages at 5000 or 7500 at least and don't give out cardboard for boxes

I will agree. Just in my opinion, these coins aren't different, but only their attributes (like mintage, package) and the fact that people really got tired from this amount of RCM coins. In the "Gods" coins I do not like theme's irrelevance to the Australia or any event or numismatic world.

Anyone know what case does it come with? Like clamshell and custom beauty box? Or like those cardboard boxes like the $100 for $100 or even worse like the $50 for $50

I don't think this coin (or any collectible items for that matter) deserves to be described as Junk - and certainly not as Garbage.

with canadian_coins! It always saddens/frustrates me when I hear folks calling particular coins "junk" primarily because they don't quickly become "hot" coins and show a near immediate price increase on the secondary market. What ever happened to collecting coins because you like their design? Or the story they tell? Or because they're part of a series you are pursuing? When did the primary criteria for appreciating a particular coin come down to its market value? I simply don't believe that a coin's merits can or should be based on its short-term or long-term price appreciation potential. Doing so, IMO, adds a level of stress and worry to what is supposed to be a relaxing hobby. I buy what I enjoy collecting. One day it might be a 200 year-old medal, another it might be a modern silver dollar from the RCM. Because each purchase is based on interest and enjoyment vs. potential profit, they will never be "junk" or "garbage" to me no matter what value they hold in the future. Just my way of enjoying the hobby...

The RCM does not make coins anymore that go up on the secondary market or at least only a tiny fraction may go up in value that is why many people stopped collecting from there. It is still a cluttered mess and overpriced no matter what it does on the secondary market.

I'm with commems on this one. This coin speaks to me and is, from what I can tell without it in hand, a work of art. I'll wait to see a better pic of this coin before purchasing, but it would be a keeper!

Quote: It is still a cluttered mess and overpriced no matter what it does on the secondary market. Just to clarify, my comments were not specific to this new $200-for-$200 coin. They were meant to be a general commentary on the reaction some folks have to coins that do not quickly go up in value. I honestly do not care if the coins I purchase from the RCM or US Mint go up in value. From each, I buy only the coins I like - I don't chase "hot" coins. I enjoy collecting coins and get personal satisfaction from building sets that I find interesting.

There is no way it can be junk or garbage when a new coin release stirs up a healthy debate about the Mint and coin collecting in general. "Garbage" - is far too dismissive of a word... You don't like it...don't buy it...it's merely your subjective dislike...but to call it junk or garbage...is rather unmistakably cheap in your reasoning for discounting the coin.
I do like the huge monthly releases from canada's mint... No doubt there will be hits and misses but is it not just awesome to anticipate and numismatically wonder what the Mint will come up with next - every 30 days... Don't you count down the days to that next batch of silver gold and plated numismatic treasures? - be honest ! How great a moment in coin collecting to have such tremendous offerings on a monthly basis... And yeah too bad all can't be broad based winners...for the speculator collector, sorry bro. If a theme/design connects with - you're gonna find a way to snag it,right? (if and when you get the mulla)
I want the Mint to continue to spoil us-bring it on...the more the merrier in terms of designs and theme....just keep it Canadiana relevant as you've always... Let the other mints chase after the irrelevant non-Canuck themes...

How can you not be impressed by lets say the "Autumn Bliss" coin that graced our presence last year? That coin will forever be one of my all time favorites and I enjoy it simply because of one thing... the artwork. Its safe to say that numismatic coins are not "garbage", that's entirely subjective depending on the person.

When all that matters is the performance in the secondary market, then most of the RCM's stuff can be classified as garbage.
