It sounds to me like a Moroccan coin - these often have a six-pointed star on one side and the date on the other - AH1299 would correspond to the Christian Era date 1882AD. Depending on size it's either 2 1/2, 5 or 10 Dirhams. Weight and size will help, but above all Edit: Beaten to the punch by Rob. Again! These range in value from $4 (silver melt value) to a few hundred dollars for coins in perfect condition (which yours is not based upon the 'missing 9' in your description).
