I ask because I'm considering sending my favorite coin in, but if they run a special I'd prefer to just send it in then.

If they do, it usually is for a multiple submission, like 10 coins at a reduced price, almost any variety is extra, the last promotion was U.S. Cent's and Dollars for $10/coin 10 coin minimum. You should sign up to be an insider, as they often offer free grading deals you pay postage only, usually twice per year. The ANACS Insider program is free to all.
