Hey Everyone,

Got a good opportunity to buy this coin but I am not sure if it's real and what the condition is. The person is asking $400 for it...what are your thoughts? Here are the pics

Looks harshly cleaned/polished. I say don't buy, wait for a problem-free, certified one that fits your budget.

For that price it doesn't matter if it's real or not. It's unattractive.

It looks fake to me. Is this being offered to you by a dealer, online, or by another collector?

These are heavily faked by the Chinese counterfeiters. At one time on ebay a person could buy a whole Dansco album filled with fake Seated Liberty dollars.

I do not like the look of the date on that coin. Maybe it's just honest wear, but compare it to this one from my collection:

It is a counterfeit, the 8 and 0 are too skinny and crossbar serif on the 4 is not found on genuine examples.

It's difficult to find an honest undisturbed coin at that price. I have the two for my Dansco 7070 and I think I paid in the $500 range for each. I am working on a mint state 7070 style registry set, and that's where these Seated Liberty dollars get very pricy.

I agree with the others.

This is a fake, and the date is a dead giveaway.

The reverse fields also appear to be grainy, which is a sign of a cast copy.

I agree with Canadian-Banknotes. The date and the lettering on the reverse are way off.
