Never fear, helix. Someone will be along shortly that can help you find out from where this coin came.

I looked at it, but unfortunately there wasn't enough visible detail for me to do more than say, Gee that looks sort of familiar.

A hint for posting photos of coins on the (or any) forum: Crop out all the space around the coin, and get the picture of the coin itself as large and clear as you can manage. That will help out lots when people are trying to help identify from just a photo.

Welcome to the Community! I hope you stay around for a long time.

Hello and welcome,

The inscription looks Hebrew, but the image is too small to make out. Are you able to take a bigger picture? Are you able to read the inscription? It would also help to know what it is made from.

thanks I'll work on the pictures, the one side looks like a fruit of some sort then a tree on the other, I almost didn't think it was much of anything at all till I saw the writing which made me think it was some type of coin after all

It is defiantly Hebrew and it has 3 grape clusters. If you can get some larger pics I might be able to get a translation for you and some history on it

i tried some photoshop tweaks and made it so the high points on the coin stood out a little. also the metal, that was another thing that confused me because it is pretty soft the only coins that I have that come close to it are old Buffalo nickels.

Hmm. After a bit of research on google.com, the coin resembles coins from this part of history. http://www.amuseum.org/book/page19.html None of them matched identically, and the specimen is possibly a reproduction?

Not sure I helped very much, but I did end up learning something. ^^;;

Looks kind of like a reproduction type prutah from Judea under Roman rule with Hebrew lettering. My guess, anyway.

Yep, sorry, it's a modern reproduction of an ancient Jewish coin. The modern style of the lettering gives it away.

I recall a coin exactly like this hitting the news some time ago, when someone found one in change. I can't find the newslink right now. The media, who hadn't done their homework properly (or asked any actual ancient coin experts), marvelled at a coin still being in circulation after 2000 years.
