Good morning all, I am new to this forum, so please fotgive my first post being a question and search orinformation on this coin.

I hav elooked through many booksand even sent said coin to The Royal Mint museum, ho after 3 months returned the coin with no inormation but suggested a coin forum in search of answers

The coin was given to me by an elderly relative who said it was extremely rare, and that he knew of no others in his time collecting.

Victorian-1847-Penny

The differences are no REG colon, but the dies are not the same as 1839 or 41 pennies as the saltire consists of parellel lines in st andrews cross, there are simlarities to GeoIV penny rev dies but that seems where it ends.
I have only uploaded the rev, the obv is no different to any other 1847 penny I have seen
I thought it may be a pattern, as said earlier The Royal Mint Museum has no record

Any thoughts, all suggestions welcome, hopefully direction or information to help further study and difinative answer

Regards
Steve

Very interesting piece. I haven't had any luck searching for it. Looking at the no colon 1841 and 1843 reverses, they seem no different than the picture you provided. The shield looks the same so I'm confused as to what you were saying about it. All crosses of England Ireland and Scotland are there on your example and every other example I've come across. Any way you can upload a pic of the obverse? It may help

There are quite a few different varieties in this series numis. A whole book is devoted to tin, copper and bronze coins and lists many of the variations, but it's a weighty and expensive one on a specialised area and not one I'm familiar with.

However in the short term you might want to try the guy that runs this site on British Pennies?

Maybe he could help or point you in the right direction?

Tom. thankyou for the link, I will compose and send an email later today

Keep calm, I have attached a closeup image of the shield,
the difference is two parallel lines, all other coppers have either a raised single line, or a flat single line,

Victorian-1847-Penny

The Obv image I need to take, but there are no differences between this coin and other 1847 Pennies I have

Michael Gouby doesn't list an 1847 type 2 rev in his list but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I've asked elsewhere in the hope someone will get back to you NC.

Gouby's stock list for interest: http://www.michael-coins.co.uk/GBcopper1d2.htm

Steve, Take a good look at the edge of the coin, and see if there is a telltale line, where the coin may have been split at some time. The lack of a colon, and the differences in the lines on the cross may indicate the coin has been split, and a miss-matched coin obv/rev's re-attached to each other. Just a thought.

rlc35, Had a good look, no sign of a joint that I can see, I will post some other images, Obv, edge etc.. once I get the coin back (see below)
Tom, many Thanks for your help and guidance, appreciate your time and effort in replying to and researching on my behalf.

Nearly 300 hits and no evidence of this coin being recorded, or indeed seen by anyone before now, if proved genuine I should imagine
it could be the rarest of the Copper series, I think that needs to be my next step and I am arranging to have the coin throughly
examined professionally, for any signs of alteration and/or joining as suggested by rlc35.

Thankyou again for all contributions, I will be back with results and additional images.
