Earlier this month I bought a 1976-S 40% Proof from my LCS for 5.50
Today I bought a 1976-S BU 40% and paid $15.00. He cut it out of the mint packaging for me. I select the best one I could find.

Seems there is a difference in price between the proof and BU.

thoughts?

I will add the BU is most definetly a MS65 and the proof is a Pr-65 easy.

I think that the proof being a "65" is most likely the reason for the much lower cost. The price of silver proof Ikes suffer hard at lower grades. At least that is my perception. At any rate, I would buy a PF65 silver Ike for $5.50 without hesitation! Good score.

Well, I think the proof is much higher then a 65, at least a 68-69, same with the BU.
I mistyped when I said 65...

Well then you did phenomenal! If he has more, I would go back and get the rest of them. So, I'm thinking that, in his mind, the BU silver Ike was worth more because it was in OGP? That's my guess.

I picked up the unc three coin set for 13 bucks this weekend. That's the half quarter and ike. Also picked up some proof set 3 piece for 11 each. All the coins look good. Usually the unc. Sells cheaper
