Nice coin. The 1914 is a very tough coin to find in that grade. When you go for the 1911-D just be sure to get a strong D.

Wow! What a coin! I can easily see how that would be anyone's largest purchase. I like the mix of lighter and darker golden tones.

Beautiful coin that has a good shot at a CAC green bean. This piece must have set you back a pretty penny!

I'm still paying for it, definitely not an easy one for me! I sometimes sell high end custom knives as a hobby and right now its helping me to afford this coin. I don't make enough on my regular income alone.
But I can't wait for this baby. I think I will be very proud to own this one. I agree it could CAC but who knows.

Thanks. Tough crowd though. Maybe I am overly excited for this one?

Tough crowd? I think we all like it. I certainly do. You might want to also invest in Akers book on $2.50 gold - it's a good reference.

I too don't understand what you meant by "tough crowd"....seems like everyone loves it, and if someone didn't, they'd be out of their mind....lol. She is a beaut! Your set will be much nicer than mine once completed I'm sure, as I am just going for AU pieces like my half eagle set. The coin I'd really bend over backwards for is a fair price on an XF-AU 1909-O....one can only dream.

There are no New Orleans (O) coins in the $2.50 Indian eagle set. The key is the 1911-D. The semi-key (and a tough one) is the 1914 that the OP has found a very nice exapmle. I have put a couple of these sets together. The OP is on a good start.

I think Johnny was thinking about the 1909-O $5 gold Indian.

Thanks guys.
I simply meant by "tough crowd" that this was a very slow thread to me considering my excitement for this coin. But I am glad you guys like it. Aside for my own feelings toward the coin it helps add validation to my purchase.
Jim, I would LOVE to see photos of your sets and of your nicer examples.
Johnny, that half eagle set seems very challenging. I haven't focused on it yet and will learn more later down the road. I only have a few coins now, but I figured grabbing this 1914 helps put me on a solid path.
I am also looking for toned/oxidized eagles. I LOVE the redder and more orange ones but they are few and far between.
