I'm no expert here, but it appears to be a cast replica of an ancient Greek tetradrachm

It is a copy of an Athenian owl tetradrachm.

Thanks for all the quick answers... So I take by the opinion that copy means "no value." I appreciate all the info and links.

Hello and welcome.

Some copies of coins can still be valuable - a contemporary counterfeit made to fool people as money 2,500 years ago is a historic artifact in its own right and just as collectable as a genuine coin.

Unfortunately, your coin is not one of these. It is a modern copy, and a fairly crude mass-produced one at that. This particular style, with what I call the "Edvard Munch eyes", crops up here on the forum once or twice a year. Here's an old thread with one. They always seem to come in the same little round plastic holder; I assume whoever sold them or gave them away did so in these holders; they were probably given away as some kind of promotional gimmick, by Readers Digest or in breakfast cereal or something like that.

Thanks SAP, and everyone for the info. No hitting the lottery on this one. Even so, great knowledge base here, and nice to have such good feedback and effort among the members. Thanks again!
