
Here's an interesting coin I recently bought. It's from the ninth year of Mehmed V's reign, corresponding to 1917 - one year before the Ottoman Empire lost World War I and was partitioned by the Allies. So the situation was not very good for the Ottomans, and quality control at the Mint was probably given low priority at the time. So this coin has a whole bunch of die cracks on one side - none are major, but given how much damage there is I wouldn't expect this die to have been in use for much longer.

Most interestingly, the star at 7:30 is half-missing because of the die crack that runs straight through it.
