I received this coin today and it looks silver. It weighs 9.57 grams and is slightly magnetic. I did a tissue test and it looks silver, sounds different than a 1916 that is the same denomination but bronze, the rest are Kennedy's. I want to know if it is counterfeit or an error... Was it plated? If more information is needed I will reply with the information you would like, just let me know. Also, I do know there is a hole in the coin. As for the tissue test the coin in question is on the bottom right of the five coins pointed out. The first column has the 1916 under the tissue, that would be the darker one. Thanks.

If anything, it's been plated/chemically altered, though the magnetism is admittedly a bit strange. There would be absolutely no reason to counterfeit a coin as common as this.

Perhaps it was plated twice? First with iron or nickel (or something else magnetic), then with silver or something else that also shows up as white with the tissue test (such as aluminium).

With the whole I'm thinking it was used for jewelry of some kind. Probably plated but I'm not that familiar with this type of coin so maybe there's another explanation.

srcliff,I thought it might be for jewelry too. I tried with a nail and hammer to see if some bronze might show up. But, to me it looks like it didn't. It seems as though the metal is very strong because it blunted the pointy tip of the nail. I also scraped it with the nail and still no bronze. Here are pictures.
