As they run down I would say XF40, AU50 XF45 AU50 and finally
the last one AU58-MS62 if it hasn't been cleaned
Just my opinion

Thanks for that. The last one is a proof coin, or so I've been led to believe. How does it rate differently for a proof?

I thought it was a strange color for a circulated coin but if it's a
proof then I'd say PR62 or 63

With those images it would be purely guesswork as to a grade.
Try and get better images and I will gladly help

The 56-Y isn't a proof strike, who told you it was?

Why not simply get the OP to send them to YOU at APCGS so that you can grade them for him/her
While you are at it why not give a PR rating on the 56 penny which is blatantly NOT a Proof Strike
Unbloodybelieveable

lol, sending them to me isn't going to get any coin graded but I would expand my collection by 5 coins :)

Not a proof? darn ebay to heck.

I did compare to coin to another 1956 penny and noted many differences, in particular, the lettering around the Queen appeared to be of a more thick set. I will attempt to post a comparison pucture.

Here are some more pictures of my 'proof'.

So I take it I simply have a run of the mill penny, albeit, a cleaned and shiny one.

Are there any prizes for being stupid? I think I deserve one.

For those who don't know; Peter Wallace is notorious for polishing coins and overgrading coins. He had a florin listed a few days back as MS68++ (raw coin), he's dreaming if he thinks a florin could ever grade that high. He is also a big user of APCGS.

Pre decimal proofs are superb coins and can be valued in the thousands.! Look at 'Drake Sterling Numismatics' for some examples.!
Very easy to be hoodwinked early in the game- the secret is to learn quickly.

Thanks to the input of those on this forum, I contacted the seller and informed him/her that the coin wasn't as described and asked for my money back, which they did.

I hope one day I may actually acquire a real proof coin.
