I recently found about 20 Canadian 1965 silver dollars. Almost every one had one or two very straight striations across the bust. Otherwise they are in extremely good condition.

Later but from the same source I found several dimes with similar marks.

Several weeks ago I received a 1965 silver dime in change (and I'll be a regular customer at that store) and it had a similar mark.

Now I'm confused. Are these minting errors, bag marks or has anyone seen this type of thing before?

Help, please.

The problem occurs when I put the pictures from my camera onto the computer. They appear until I try to move them to somewhere else, then they disappear. My techy says she can sort it out when she gets a chance but until then, I'm stuck.

Hey,
They are not uniform in any way so I would say it was done by somebody... There pretty nasty scratches.

So that pretty much reduces them to scrap, Right?

I wouldn't be too disappointed davidd. They minted over 10 million 1965 dollars, even without those scratches they would just be worth their weight in silver. Each of the dollars contains 0.6oz of silver so still something nice to find!

fortunately there were a number of other coins that have a little value like a 1925 nickel.
