Don't know what the cause is, but I don't believe the lines were in the die as they seem so inconsistent. "Dipping" is not considered cleaning... -from PCGS website Report this Post to the Staff

I believe it's due the new metal plating system, probably was still working out the kinks. Report this Post to the Staff
Xanonite Valued Member Canada 218 Posts	Posted 07/25/2014 1:19 pm Many of the coins in 2001 came out with "trails" around the beads, in fact, it's very hard to find one without this flaw. I usually look for coins with errors on them, but for this year I actually tried to look for one without the trails on the beads, the boat, the volunteer side the little h......really bad year for that.
