First time poster here! I am an amateur coin collector, not an exonumist. But I have a medallion that I have no clue about so I thought I'd ask for your help. It appears to be some type of Asian piece, about 2-3/8" in diameter and about 1/8" thick. There are no markings/engravings on the rim. I have attached pics of the obverse & reverse. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

A British & US flag with oriental characters...curious indeed! I'm assume from your user name you're from Ohio. I would take it with you next time you go for Chinese take-out. At the place I frequent they have newspapers written in charecterson the dine-in tables & could probably assist with translation.

Thanks to everyone for all the helpful info! Actually I am originally from Ohio (where my heart will always be) but we live in the mountains of Western North Carolina in the rural town of Sapphire, which is in Transylvania County (yes, it is!).

On the subject: A couple of weekends ago I spoke to a gentleman who owns a coin shop in Asheville, NC (the Big City for us about an hour away!) and told him about the medallion. He told me there was going to be a coin show at the WNC Ag center the first weekend in August and was sure there would be some Exonumists there, too, who might be able to help me out if I could bring it to show them. That is one plan and I am definitely going to take the info y'all shared here and do some Googling with it & see what I can find out!

amida17 I will sure check out the link you sent me, too! Thanks for that. I will let y'all know what I find out! Thanks again!

Well, folks, with the help of the link that amida17 sent me and some online searching I found out what this medallion is all about! This is a Japanese WWI Victory Commemorative Table Medal. The bronze medal is dated Taisho 8 (1919). It was issued to commemorate the Treaty of Versailles and designed by I. Sato. It was struck at the Japanese mint in 1919. It portrays the flags of the five allies of World War I: Great Britain, the United States, Japan, Italy, and France; all within oak and palm branches. On the reverse, Peace is standing on the left in Oriental attire, holding an olive branch & doves around; Versailles Palace is in the background to the right.

So that's pretty cool! Great historical piece. Going to the Buncombe County coin show in Asheville today to see if I can find a storage holder/case for it. This forum helped me "break the case!" Thanks, y'all!
