My father served as a seabee in the Philippines during WWII. Recently, in going through some of his things, I found a coin I believe may be valuable. It is a silver 1907S Filipinas $1.00/1 Peso coin. Untouched, encased in a silver band with chain - both heavily tarnished. The coin is in excellent shape, with no tarnish or apparent defects...

I know the coin is genuine, unless some unknown person sneaked into my house, dug through box after box looking for the little packet his war things were in and managed to sneak back out again!

From your description, it sounds like your coin could be worth somewhere around $100. We'll need pics to ascertain condition and value your item accordingly.

Jewelery coins are more likely to have been cleaned and polished - and this is BAD, where coins are concerned. "No tarnish" is either good (the coin is perfectly preserved!) or bad (someone has buffed it all off and greatly reduced the value). And if the band is permanently stuck to the coin that's another value-lowerer (for obvious reasons).

BUT - without pictures - I'm just guessing. The best-case scenario is that the coin can be cleanly removed from the band and turns out to be in good condition.

The coin has not been cleaned or retouched in any way. I'm new here and am trying to get pictures posted, so bear with me. the coin is in excellent condition, having been stored away from light, contaminants of any kind (acidic paper, etc.)

I've read somewhere that there are only three known 1907S Filipinas in the condition I believe mine to be. I don't live near someone who could grade the coin, but am about an hour away from San Antonio, TX if anyone has suggestions. Hope this isn't against the rules to ask...
