Hi everyone! I am not a collector but, my Husband works outside and found a bag of coins from around the world, most of them Asian coins. I looked some up online and my head is spinning. There is one coin I looked up on live auctioneers that sold for 1800 pounds, which is like 3300$ Canadian. Everything is the same from the date to the details. here is the picture. thanks

Malaya, 20 cents, 1950 - catalog value in XF condition, $3.00, VF condition, $0.75.

A rare proof-finish coin would sell for lots of money. Your coin is not a proof.

Here's the NGC database page for this coin.

As nalaberong said, this coin comes in two versions: "proof", made for collectors, and the normal circulation type. The circulation type is common, the proof is rare. This one on LiveAuctioneers is proof.

How to tell whether yours is proof or not? Well, probabilities aside, the best information is the provenance: it was found in a bag of mixed foreign coins, presumably picked up as souvenirs or in change from travels. A proof version of this coin is not very likely to be found in circulation, or in your typical tourist trap. A proof coin would be bought by a collector and would almost certainly be treated better than being tossed in a bag with a bunch of other coins.

You might want to read the ' inherited Collection' advice found here https://goccf.com/t/167629

Have fun with the coins but know that it is highly unlikely that a rare, valuable coin would be in a bag with other coins. Still, it could be a lot of fun to ID them all...and you may just catch the collecting bug!
