A while back I found this earring on the airport floor. It looked trampled pretty good, but had what appears to be a small diamond hanging from it, so I put in in my pocket and into the junk drawer. Today my six year old and I were going through the junk and he said the earring looked like a Roman clock, and that jarred a memory of seeing some old coins. Is there any way to identify this, and/or authenticate it? It might be mounted in silver, and I have a silver test kit which I can try on the mounting. It measures about 13mm in dia.

Thanks. Wow, that would be really cool if it's real. Just so happens I recently became interested in these and wanted one. The bezel looks different on one side, like there is an extra rim or something. Should I attempt to remove it from the bezel? I'd hate to damage it, but would also like to see if any important part of the coin is hidden. Any suggestions on how to fully attribute it? I don't mind doing a little research. BTW I did a test on a small piece of the post of the earring, and I think it tested as silver, dark red result on the acid/stone. The post is the most likely part to be silver, so I'm not sure the rest of the mount is silver. Did a scratch test but I'm not confident in the results. It's the first thing I ever tested for silver content. Thanks. Ed

Lookslike your average authentic widows mite to me. I dont know if there even is further ID to be done - you could always look up who issued the type, it seems that most I've seen have been allocated to a single issuer. The bezel isn't hiding anything, and removing it might cause damage, but it could be worth a try (these things are very very common (perhaps somebody found a huge hoard recently) and a replacement wouldnt cost all that much)

There wasn't a "Lost Property Office" in the Airport?

Yes there is. I work at the airport, and I found this in the back baggage area I walk through to get to work, where the baggage carts are driven in. By the looks of scratches and dents on the bezel it already had been driven over many times by the baggage carts, and if I thought it had any real value or that someone would be missing it, I would have turned it in. Like I said, I thought it was "possibly" little bit better than a piece of junk, and frankly at the time it was barely worth my effort to bend down and pick it up.
