Can anyone tell me if this coin appears to be authentic? My dad found it while preparing the soil for a garden in New Brunswick around 1973-74.

Given that the replacement obverse inscription is in French and English, it is reasonable to conclude that this replica was made for sale in Canada. Presumably as a part of some kind of "Colonial coins that circulated in Canada" set.

In this very old post from Swamperbob, he found a pseudo-cut half dollar from the same "set". Alas, the pictures have expired long ago, but as I recall, the half had the English-and-French inscription on the back exactly as Swamperbob described.

That's why, as I've posted before, don't link to pics; copy them to the thread, and they're here for reference forever. Especially ebay auctions.
