I recently received some old coins from a relative. Most I have been able to identify on my own (Justin II & Sophia Byzantine, Severus Alexander, and a constantine coin), but these two are proving very hard for a first timer to try to idendify. Can anyone help me with these?

The top one is Byzantine, and of a type difficult to identify without a catalogue. It's an "anonymous follis", of the variety listed in the catalogues as "Class B" and attributed to the reign of Romanus III.

The bottom one is Islamic, looks like mid-period, perhaps Seljuq or maybe Mamluk Egypt. A size for it might help.

Thank you very much Sap. I will look through the Byzantine catalog again for the top one. The bottom one is fairly small, approximately 3/4".

I appreciate the quick response. I am excited to start learning about coins, especially ancient ones!

The bottom one looks to be very similar to the Islamic Golden Horde Khans (1369-1380 AD) I guess I will have to take them all to an expert to double check them.
