Vijayasena AR drachm 17mm 2.3g o: bust of vijayasena, corrupt greek legend, date behind. 242 AD (162 saka era) r: hill and river with sun and crescent moons, Brahmi legend "Rajno Mahaksatrapasa Damasenasaputrasa Rajno Mahaksatrapasa Vijayasanasa" i believe this says something to the effect of..."son of king and great satrap damasena, king and great satrap vijayasena"
thought this may appeal to other weirdos like myself that dig indian coins. I know there are a few of you out there.
I sold one of these a long while back but it never reached the buyer. They often have multiple strikes (the one I had was struck 3 or 4 times). I never had much luck researching mine - couldnt get legends, kings - barely even found info on the civilisation.
yeah, ski, the details are pretty good on this one...date and a partial obverse legend, and a pretty good reverse legend...thats what made me go for it.
ben, it is hard to find info on these guys indeed. had to piece together the legend based on the wikipedia page!
