Ive seen a couple of rarities in lots recently, both of which I lost (I wasnt willing to pay full retail for either). See if you can spot them:

You'll only need this picture for this lot:

And you'll need both for this:

To give a hint, I reckon ValiantKnight would have been interested in the first one (I hope I wasnt bidding against him)

Good spot. A lot of emperors issued the exact same design with the same legend - ADVENTVS AVG (arrival of the emperor) - Carausius' celators, doing their best with no real training, likely copied it initially from a coin of an earlier emperor like Phillip. Its actually a quite common design as far as they go for Carausius but they still sell for hundreds of pounds. This is because the design was initially issued when Carausius took Britain - it is literally the arrival of the Usurper, and so holds a key event in Britains history in its design.

The rarer coin, which is rarely seen (one was on ebay not long ago, sold for a big wad of dough) is the EXPECTATE VENI (Come, oh awaited one - more literally 'the arrival of the expected') which records the supposed glee of the British people to ruled by someone who cared about the Island and didnt treat them like morons (Carausius had some very interesting stuff on his coins, including references to classical literature).

I am used to seeing Carausii beaten up - the rarest thing I've ever held was treated worse, and would have been worth a lot lot more. Easily 5 figures.

The first lot has two Vandal Kingdom types, the 4 nummi and the palm tree reverses. I wouldn't be surprised if those were the main (or only) two that the bidders wanted from the lot.

I have these two types but am always willing to take on more of these:

Darn - the palm tree is also a Vandal type? Well, I wouldve paid more - I only saw the 4 nummi! Probably would have gone up to 30-35 (perhaps even 40 - the palm tree does look quite nice)
