hello everyone I'm new to this so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place. I have boxes of old coins that my grandfather used passed on to me. I've just sorted threw the first box which is all pennys and half pennys dating from 1905 to 1967. in total there are approx 280 one pennys and 25 half pennys and also one small 3 pence. I'm looking to know if they have any value or if there are any particular ones to look for. any info appreciated

thanks :)

Sorry, but circulated predecimal coinage like this has next to no value. When we changed over to decimal in 1972, tonnes of the stuff was squirreled away and so theres a huge amount of it available - so much so that people have trouble getting rid of it.

The best thing you could do is get a cheap folder with a space for a coin from each year and build a set out of the coins. It would make a good keepsake to remember your grandpa by.

Some old coinage was minted in silver. If you go to google you'll find which years had what silver content. Other than that, probably not of huge value, but worth more than the ha'pennies and pennies.

The Irish pennies are worth a little more, just because there are less. The 2/6 is a half crown, to help you check that for metal content too.

Hello Dkeeg. I am rather new here too, and to En glish coins. That link that fioti gave you is a gold mine of information. It is the most complete and informative web site. I spent hours on it when I was researching British coins to start a type set. I think you will find much of the information you need there.
