 To The CCF! Grade wise the huge rim ding and harsh cleaning detract more than the worn date. imho. Can we have a reverse pic? |

The picture I took was photoshopped some with contrast in order to show the date better when I was trying to ID the coin's date. It's actually a nice brown coin

I'm not necessarily expecting it to be a grade any higher than AG to G, but some of the details are real good, it's mainly the last nine has a lot of wear and possibly a light strike

I am reserving judgement on the authenticity of this coin.
It comes closest to S-189 (the non-overdate), but there are appear to be some subtle differences in the shape/size of the date, the denominator and other areas.
Professional verification is important.

GERNAMICUS brings up good points the 7 looks odd to me as well. Regardless, I think in a TPG G6..... EAC FR2 |

I am sending it off tomorrow. I got it from someone who has had it for a very long time, not that it matters. I got 7 coins altogether. A couple of the newer ones from the 40's were pretty good.

That is what I thought to first impression, G06 details. 1799 definitely a scarce key date. I have 1800, 1802, & 1807 and one with no date I got for a buck at a coin show.

I took a dozen or so pictures with my macro lense,played with the contrast and lighting to make the numbers show up better and compared them to the pictures in the Red Book. Additionally I've shown the coin to a half dozen "non"-experts and so far it has been a unamious "9". I don't plan to keep it so I need it certified. Hopefully it is a "9" and it will bring me a gob of silver eagles in exchange. Either way, not bad for a coin I handed back at first and didn't want it, but then took it with three others for $10. |
