What date do you keep these from anything pre 1980?

Up here, our one cent piece has been removed from circulation, but going through jars I have found a lot of 1970s cents in very good condition, So I like to keep everything 1979 and earlier, I know the numismatic value is practically nothing right now, but since they are discontinued, I choose to keep them. I don't hoard for copper, just future numismatic value, and personal preference, something for the kids one day maybe.

Similar to Douglas, I keep AU+ LMCs. Not worth a lot now, but sometime later perhaps. I also go through the AU cents every once-in-a-while and toss back the lower quality coins. I keep around $10-15 worth of AU+ LMCs on a running tally.

It's up to you what you would like to keep. After collecting for a bit, you'll probably want to thin out the heard a bit else buckets of coins start to clutter the place (at least for me). Good luck!

depends on my mood and the penny itself. if I like the looks or it then I keep it, but cannot really tell BU from AU or whatever due to eyesight, so if it has a pretty shimmer or shine I keep it.

Okay thanks, and I save all Canadians... Maybe worth nothing now but iam still very young so maybe in 50 years when iam getting ready to retire they maybe worth something plus I don't get a lot of them, I have been only keeping a few here and there but they really gotta shine for me to keep. And I have tried to keep them 1979 and earlier also

Of course I keep all pre-1982, but I also keep all AU+ cents, regardless of date. Especially Zincolns, since most will probably disappear or deteriorate in future.

Early zinc cents (1982-1991) are the hardest to find in BU, so I typically keep any that I find. I doubt they will ever make me a fortune, but I'd like to have them for when my children are building LMC sets just as I built LWC sets.

That is why I keep them, Finn, so future collectors (hopefully those in my family) will have some.

That's a good way to encourage children to collect. If in the future they decide for video games you don't lose anything.
