Hi There,

I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this coin for me. I haven't been able to find it anywhere!

I'm not sure what side the obverse and reverse are because there is no portrait.

I have searched similar coins with the same date and all have a portrait and the side pictured on the left.

Ruler: Louis XIV (It says XIIII on it)
Date: 1683
The side pictured on the right shows an "L" in the centre (I'm assuming is a Mint Mark)

Any information on the coin and idea of value would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
phoenetics

Thank you so much for the link! I think you're right, and I believe that it's very likely it reads 1693 and not 83. The numbers are worn and what left of the "8/9" looks like the bulkiness of an eight. There is a listed 1693L. I also couldn't find any 15 Deniers for 1683L

However, I am still on the hunt, because I'm not fully convinced about the date being 93. I think it's 83.

If anyone else has some more information on this coin, let me know please!

France 15 deniers
mintmark L : Bayonne
KM# 285.10
LUD XIIII D G FR ET N R
Ludovicus XIIII dei gratia Franciae et Navarae rex
Louis 14 by the grace of god, king of France and Navare
BENEDICTVM SIT NOMEN DOMINI
Blessed is the name of the Lord

For this year, mintmark L there is only one date : 1693
8 and 9 can be confusing.
