How do I tell the difference I have a Nickle from 1958 that looks well to put it in laymans terms amazing

Proof coins generally have a mirrored finish.

a regular strike has more of a luster/matte finish:

Here's a high grade regular one as an example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1950-D-Jeff...em1e6fb8ee28

You can see it has more of a sparkly finish than a smooth reflective finish like the proof.
