Found a Toonie that has one side with no "mirror" shine or coating to it but the other side is normal. Does someone know if this is like the "chrome, no chrome" or plating? I left some pictures to compare.

The 2012 Toonie was the first year they were produced
in nickel plated steel as opposed to solid nickel. Is it
possible one side didn't get coated with nickel?
Just wondering. Maybe an expert can shed more light on this.

That's exactly what it looks like. I looked around a bit and found out these coins are not "plated" but "clad" and somehow when the sheet was clad in nickel before they were cut into round blanks the coating on one side didn't stick like it should have and their detection processes were unable to detect the error. Did I get this right? or is it something else that happened? Does someone know it they (the 2012 toonies) still get plated or clad? Then I would know for sure. All your help is very much appreciated!

2012 and later toonies with the security feature, like most modern Canadian coins are not "clad" they are plated. The blanks are not plated once but three times, first with nickel, then with copper, and finally the finish of nickel or brass.

That was certainly a very informative document on how the coins are made, but unfortunately the document states that ""...the Canadian circulation coins in the denominations
of 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 cents are produced by the Royal
Canadian Mint using a multi-ply plated material.", so this pdf was made in 2012 or before and does not include the loonie or toonie. It looks like I'm back to square one but I thank you for all your help. Anything helps.

The toonie you pictured is a security design type made with the multi-ply technology, looks like poor quality control.
