I have been collecting for years and have recently been thinking of joining. What are the advantages of becoming a member?

I joined at the convention in Calgary 2005 and bought my membership from Dan Gosling. Since then I have met many fellow collectors who share my passion. Information sharing is right up with making new friends at the RCNA conventions. Getting the youth involved is a must. Just a few thoughts.

ANA member for many years , past member CAND when I owned my coin shop. Agree with ZONAD getting youth interested in numismatics is a MUST! We have a policy at all of our markets and coin shows..................every youngster under twelve or so gets a free coin from our DOLLAR junk box.

I've thought of joining as well. Can anyone join? Are there pre-requisites to joining or conditions under which you must be to join?

I was a member until the current president. Conflict is simply a joke. May join again after God willing.

I purchase a RCNA membership now for the high school I went to almost 40 years ago. At least a copy of the Journal goes to the library 10 times a year. Probably attended by 500 students. Maybe 1 or 2 every year will take the bait. Less than $40 well spent. Giving free coins to kids already attending a coin show is not the best investment unless you're a dealer looking to start a relationship with a future customer. Not trying to start a fight, just my opinion. Also, if you buy a Charlton catalog this year you will see the RCNA membership application which was missing for the past couple years is back in. Major thank you from me personally to Bill Cross for making this happen.

Advantages to membership; 1)You have access to Journals dating back over 60 years 2)You can read Zonad's column ten times a year Like nickelsguy I like to dislike the current president, but hopefully there's only another year to endure Quote: Giving free coins to kids already attending a coin show is not the best investment I agree, it's 2014, most young people I see at coin shows accompanying their parents have their attention focused on their phones not the tables, a forum such as this goes a lot further in encouraging their interest in coins.

@ Zonad we do not give coins to kids "as a Best investment". It is one of my ways of paying back a hobby that has been more than wonderful to me in so many ways. Yes I make a great deal of money buying and selling coins , but I love the people aspect of the hobby and love giving back as much as receiving. The smile on the faces of some of the young kids and their parents makes it more than worthwhile ! Keep smiling ! Jack

Of course your way is still benefitting the hobby. I just want people to realize some things that can be done as collectors or dealers to interest others.
