A Nice Surprise...a 14d From A Dateless Buffalo.

My wife had a few dateless Buffalos she got from an old lady she used to take care of. The reverse of this one had a D on it. So I put it in vinegar about a week ago and a couple of days ago got a pleasant surprise.

The photo isn't perfect, hard to get the best angle, but the 1914 is definitely there. The other 2 dateless were a '16P and '17P.

If I can see 1914 online from a photo, I bet it's pretty clear in person.

Yeah thanks. The obverse looks nicer in hand than in the picture. I enhanced it a bit to show the 14 better. It actually looks more like the reverse. A nice hole filler for my kids Buffalo folder. I know some people like to restore just the date area rather than the whole nickel. I might try that in the future. I don't mind the look of a vinegar restored nickel, it a fairly gentle process, and if you look at the reverse, it doesn't have that etched look.

Nice save!! I've yet to get a 14d from the dateless. I've sot 3 18d, 2 15d, 1 13 t1 d.....But you cant save them all!
