Commemorative coins are usually less dull than the standard definitive design, but this 1985 FAO Belize 25c is the exception. The obverse is the same one they've used since 1953, and as for the reverse...  Edited by NumisRob

Tonkin -- 1905 1/600 piaster:   This is the only coin I have that has no decoration at all -- just text. Some Islamic coins I have come close. Also, this coin is made out of zinc, so it's kind of dull that way as well. |

As you may know, pictures are a sensitive topic in Islam as they tend to offend everyone for a large variety of reasons, no matter what's depicted. As such calligraphy became their biggest art style, already hundreds of years ago. I do know that a lot of Islamic countries try/tried to do something with that on their coins. |

That Tonkin coin is lovely - it's the first I've ever seen.
I often think I've seen all the circulating 20th century coins ever issued and occasionally I see something that I've never seen before.

I'll get us back on track here ... Nothing more boring than a boat rudder.  Italian featherweight coin. On the other side is a 5 with maybe a beluga whale or porpoise of some kind which is a bit more exciting.  |

MikeF, that might be boring but I believe it is a great 1721-H French Colonies Copper Sou of 9 Deniers La Rochelle Mint. I get excited over early Canadian circulating copper. Not sure but I think this also circulated down Louisiana way.

That rudder takes the cake A couple more I find really boring. Italy, 10 lire. The reverse is ok, but that plow is just ... meh.  Slovnia, 100 tolar. They could really do better for this cc.  Ok, this was issued just after the war, so different rules apply ... But still. The beginning of a very boring Yugoslavian coin designs.  I must stress that boringness is a matter of opinion. I know people who like Yugoslavian coin and I respect that. But for me they just don't do a single thing  Edited by Dagaz

I couldn't resist. It's boring as heck but I love the history behind the coin. This one is graded vf-25 by PCGS and is crazy expensive. |
