Hi, I just got this and noticed a RPD on the 1 and 8 and the reverse has some minor doubling on E and N's. I see a listing of several (at least three) snow numbers with RPD and Minor DDR but I have no pictures or anything to figure out which one (still trying to find the most up to date book on Snow varieties) Any one know which one it is and the relative scarcity and value?

1870 is an interesting year for varieties. For a date with so few coins minted, there exists a large quantity of varieties. It is also the only year where a combination of the "Bold N" and the "Shallow N" reverses exist on the same reverse (yours is this). It is a doubled die reverse.

That being said, properly attributing 1870 IHCs can be difficult due to so many varieties that are very similar to others. I think yours is either S-6, S-16, S-29, or S-30.

Lets see what others think.

I see a definite repunching in the 1 of 1870, and it's clearly a "bold N" reverse--just unsure which variety because my books aren't with me.

Definitely one of those but it's difficult to narrow down without being able to get a good close look at it.
