Based on the helpful feedback received for my Twelve Caesars set, I decided to replace the Domitian. This piece was obtained at the recent World's Fair of Money.

Domitian-Upgrade
Domitian-Upgrade

Domitian 81-96 AD
AE Sestertius, 90-91 AD
IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM COS XV CENS PER PP, laureate head right / IOVI VICTORI, Jupiter seated left, holding Victory and sceptre
35 mm, 23 g
RIC 702

As those who read my Twelve Caesars post will recall, the set is comprised of As sized coins. Thus this Sestertius disrupts the symmetry but I'm happy to have it in the set. My favorite aspect of the coin is in the inscription where Domitian is identified as Censor Perpetuus.

As an entertaining aside, I showed this coin to a coworker who asked: "Is that George Washington"?

The price paid was $125, negotiated down from $150. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Yes a very nice big one. I am viewing on my phone but it appears it may be improved on with careful conservation.
The price was fair enough !
The as you had shown previously was a bit of a drag on the overall set.
With patience you can make upgrades when bargains show themselves.
Or ....... Go for a second set !
Then again I believe Otho and Vitellius didn't issue any large bronze
Better idea. Continue next with the 5 "good emperors"
In Sestertii of course

Theres good room for improvement there. Using olive oil would be quicker, but would darken the partina, I think you'd be better off storing it in a sealed container with D/W, changing the water every couple of weeks. Would take a long time to clean off, but speeding it up would require an experienced hand.

That is a nice looking coin, I certainly wouldn't mind having it.
