Does anyone have more information on the 500 cash coin?
Your coin mimics
this coin (first image) which was struck during the reign of the Guangxu Emperor of the Qing Dynasty.
The inscription reads
guang xu tong bao (å.‰ç·'e€šå¯¶). (Unfortunately, the software on this forum does not display certain Chinese characters.)
The orientation of your coin is not correct. Please rotate the coin 90 degrees counterclockwise so that the character
bao (寶) is at the top.
Also, the inscription on your coin is not read in the traditional manner of top, bottom, right, left.
On your coin the inscription is read in a
clockwise manner beginning with the
guang (å.‰) character at the 3'oclock position.
No cash coins were actually struck with the number "500" during the Qing Dynasty. Larger denomination cash coins used Chinese numbers in the inscription. Five hundred would have been written as äº"百. (Sorry, but this is a forum software problem.)
Arabic numbers such as "500" were not used on Chinese cash coins.
Your "coin" is a modern novelty piece.
