Yesterday at my weekly jaunt to the coin shoppe, I picked up a nice trio of coins from the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek. They include a sixpence of 1893, a shilling of 1894, and a 2 1/2 shilling (Half crown) of 1896. All coins are silver, bearing the image of Paul Kruger on the front. The coins grade F-VF, depending on the actual coin.
I put a photo of the half crown into my image gallery.
Unfortunately, I don't have a Krause for the 1800s. :( Can someone give me the information for these little guys? They're very interesting coins, from an interesting period of South African history.
South Africa The 6 pence is KM#4 and is $3 in F and $20 in VF Mintage of 96,000 The Shilling is KM#5 and is $4 in F and $40 in VF Mintage of 366,000 The 2 1/2 shilling is KM#7 and is $5 in F and $10 in VF Mintage of 285,000
The banner reading "eendrag maakt macht" means "unity makes strength" I think. The only other thing I know is they must have been expensive :D Nice coins..
