Was sent the below photo of a 1956 proof quarter, the seller claims is a Double Die, being I'm new at detecting errors, would like the community opinion. Thanks, Charles

You need to take a better picture and say what is doubled so we can work with that.

Have asked for a better photo be sent to me with holder cover removed to remove any distortion from the plastic, based on what I see in this photo the letters in "God We Trust" and numbers of the Date look off to me, being in doubt thought it was best to ask.

just a couble of "semantic" observations. the correct term is "doubled die" - not double die.
and a doubled die is a variety and not an error.

I see what you're talking about in "we" but that just looks like camera shake

Here is another photo I was sent by the seller, hope it helps. After looking at the photo in preview mode the words just look blurred like can happen with camera movement, but the sellers claims is a Doubled Die Obverse.

A bit more information from the seller below when asking for clearer photos, to me it looks more like blur from camera movement and not DD: quoto {In God We Trust is doubled not blurred â€" the R in Liberty is Doubled and the Date are also doubled. I pulled the coin out and viewed it with my 20X coin microscope and you can see the depth of doubling â€" almost triple punched. In Wexler and Flynn "Best of the Washington quarter Double Die Varieties" ... it has the 1956 PR WDDO-001 shown ... This one does not have the Die gouge (dot) in the right wing tip (reverse).} Here is the killer part of his email { If I was trying to sell a double die â€" I would have sent it into PCGS.} OMG...........

Keep in mind this is a proof coin. They are struck more than once. If the machine damage occurs on a proof coin, it will be flat and shelf like, just like machine damage we see on business strike coins. I had a 1956 Proof quarter like this one and it had machine damage on the date. Sorry, I don't have an image now.

Coop Thank You for all of your help... Got another email saying he was going to get in touch with PCGS and may no longer want to sell coin.
