Is anybody familiar with this, its origin and purpose (although it's likely merely something that was commercially marketed)?

38.3 mm in diameter, weight 21.1 g, looks like rust on the obverse, but it is nonferrous.

I suspect it's one of a series.

Not George, but a replica of the medal awarded to Col. William Washington for valor at the Battle of Cowpens:

Thank you, always something new to learn. Turns out he was only 28 at the time, and that he and George were second cousins.
