I don't like the look of the coin. I can't see anything similar in acsearch. I would stay away from that particular seller.

I have serious doubts about this coin. Just doesn't look right to me.

The seller has been discussed a few times. I've purchased a couple of coins from him by using the "make offer" button. Both times I submitted reasonable offers based on real comparisons and both times my offers were accepted. They were a mere fraction of his pie-in-the-sky full price. He deals in mostly low-end or "problem" coins but due to the sheer volume he stocks, sometimes you can find an obscure coin worth owning. The Akragas in question appears authentic to me. The "73% off" price is still high for this particular example. A quick look at CNG's archives will give you an idea of what they have sold for in recent years: CNG archives, search terms "Akragas hemidrachm" There are a few "outliers" in terms of realized price but the ebay coin has some problems which detract. Still though... not a bad coin :) Caveat, as usual... I am not an expert.

Yeah, my concern is that the seller seems suspect, almost like a used car salesman, but nothing leaps out at me as being off with the actual coin.

The fact that he's selling stamp seals as 'tooth shaped coins' gives me enough concern that he could even differentiate between real and fake coins that I'd avoid him entirely.

Chuy, are you referring to his Akragas listing for the hexas? Those are considered cast coins, although I'm not sure of his nomenclature (hexas may be correct though) 4 pellets = 4/12 or 1/3 of a litra, aka "triens". 3 pellets = 3/12 or 1/4 litra, aka "quadrans". More on these "tooth coins" and other cast coins/proto-coins on Doug Smith's website: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/do...ac56cas.html...and examples from CNG's archives.

Huh, well I learned something today then. Could've sworn they were seal stamps.
